Lighting the Cobra’s Pipe

The Forgotten Team at the Heart of the Wartime Brazilian–American Alliance, 1942–45

This article assesses the contributions of a transnational team of administrators, liaison officers, translators, educators, officers, and other military personnel tasked with building the 25,000-man Força Expedicionâria Brasileira (Brazilian Expeditionary Force, FEB) during World War II from the ground up.

It was published on September 7, 2021 in the inaugural edition of Occupied Italy, an open-access, peer-reviewed e-journal dedicated to the study of the history of the Second World War in the Italian theatre and its immediate aftermath.” You can find it here.

An interesting side-note: The article’s publication coincided with a weeklong conference hosted by the Mu.Bat (Museum of Battipaglia) Association in Italy that culminated in a celebration event and an annual historical reenactment of the Allied landings at Salerno on the battle’s anniversary, September 9.
